yes, EHBA - City representative could be too fine grained, but I think here we are still at a previous stage.
the proposal would be just to:
1st - have an up to date list of clubs and approximate number of players across Europe.
2ns - have some data to find out if the players of the comunity would like to have an EHBA Board and sometimes have to vote (on major decisions that would involve the whole community)
The list of country reps is a great starting point, and we also have the Google map with the clubs.
yes country reps > club reps > the club that host the euros or/and world if its in europe is the unoficial , organic orga.
but this year i d like also to propose more frame , basically i d like the community to develop the tools to be self sustainable in time , and ensure bike polo has a future.
historically this point was always brought up as a ehbpa “task” but its a tough one , imo a separate board could be created for each different matters.
solely focusing on euros orga year after year isnt enough , a lot of problematics raised lately and are due to poor organization and involvment from the polo crowd.
also i want to make sure we dont slip into a easy solution ie someone with money and vision tells us “dont worry bike polo , i ll sort out everything for you , the tournaments , the gears , the rules , the referees. but its 1000€ per team to attend a tournament”
i would like this sport to keep up its great social values and keep up with a self organized community , but really organize it.
Something we did in itali was to create a broadcast channel on WA, with ALL the players we have in Italy, if any info has to be passed down to the community we put it there so everyone knows immediately (everybody uses it daily). Only the admins can post there.
This originated by the failure of the city rep system, said nobody was really informing their communities, because people has a life
perfect , that mean we can use this channel to inform the italians. i will soon send a link there to get an idea of how many active players you have in each club
we also have a similar , informal whatsapp group for uk and ireland , that i created couple years ago to chat about qualifiers
this lack of formal organisation within some country could be a clue to why these countries have declining numbers of players , i would like to offer a true support frame from ehbpa for such situations.
Just compiling and collecting informations from past activities , keeping track of clubs activities ( are they still playing ? why ? can we organize a tournament on the old court still ) would be helpful.
until now the procedure to do something was : “you want to do that ? no one is preventing you , go ahead”
but then , as an individual , people question your legitimacy , killing most intentions from start. if you are a popular player with a popular cause , sure . a strznger with a great idea that is a bit too outside of the "relevant " ? good luck
Here is a link to the map of clubs , to start the referencing i can have an overview : lausanne isnt listed yet ( swiss) Angers is still “active” ,when irl this club doesnt exist anymore
How do i get access to admin right to update the french clubs ?
Can we sub divide europe wth each country for better reading ?
Can i get 1player from each country that can quickly get in touch with all the clubs ( like victor offered to do for spain )
i will need a team for the next month , and i m working to get a hold on Laurent ( roger bike polo ) to see if we can create a document similar to the frenc referencing thru their wrok space ( frama space is for association so there is a few things to provide to open an account )
as soon as we have a good base to start this work we will be able to propose an open access excel sheet where each club will input some valuable information such as players number , genders ratio , newbies ratio , courts situations ( backed up by concil or rogue ) etc
Ditching google drive for ethical reason and at the same time proposing to use WhatsApp does not make much sense to me.
We should utilize Poloverse as much as possible. People can install the app and enable notifications for the Forum, for specific subforums (EHBA section for example in the future), etc.
yeah, I agree with Benji, beeing realistic here: install app and enable notifications can be too much for most of the less involved players, WA they have it already and they will get any message no matter what. they dont have to actively do anything, but they will get the message.
poloverse is a place for us to talk about stuff, the WA broadcast I’m suggesting is just a fast and effective mostly unilateral comunication tool.
Thank you Mateen to directing me to this conversation.
A propos, I would like to elaborate on a small part of this topic, the ruleset.
As a volunteer, I am interested in how our ruleset impacts the sport. I want to help create a clearly defined process that allows the ruleset to be changed.
Why is this important to me?
The way the sport is played continues to evolve, the way the sport is arbitrated does as well. The ruleset must be allowed to evolve too.
How democratic the process? We ask.
•It’s like amending a constitution. The elected committee proposes an amendment, the presidents from each club in europe vote. Yay or Nay.
•Committee deputizes volunteers in europe that propose rule changes once a year. Committee votes Yay or Nay.
•Something else? What are your thoughts?
I agree with having a procedural way to make the ruleset better. I also think that having an online platform like Poloverse can let us do the voting in the most direct possible way, steering more towards individual voices than levels of elections for committees and deputies and stuff. People interested in the matter can then do the legwork around their clubs, tell people to discuss and vote. I’m interested in chatting more about it.
At the risk of veering off topic, I suppose the amount of discussion this content generates will probably need some level of active sensible moderation.
Only just heard about this topic. We should @-mention as many people as possible, so they know.
Thanks Jason and thanks to everyone else caring enough to be here.
I agree with @metriod : whats the harm in trying again? You never know if democratic processes will work, but the only way they can is if people believe.
I tried to reach some people over TG cause I thought it is easier for most, but it seems like we bring it back here. I did a little poll to feel the pulse, which I will copy here.
Also I am really looking forward to discussing all this with you IRL! So thursday, 3rd of July, Perpi - PLEASE COME! Topics will be whatever you want to talk about, maybe similar to what we could organize at EHBA level in the future if we find people:
Slot allocation; EHBPC organization; Inclusion, Community Policing…EHBA election?!
One last point to @Danana : I would be in favor of encouraging people to run as a team- I think it makes it easier knowing who you are going to work with and discussing possible roles beforehand.
