A shot hits a dead defensive player in the crease

people have to stop being drone and use some sense , there is a few different situation that will look alike:

a player dab and is in front of the goal , there is no goalie, the ball hit him and if he wasnt there it would be goal > goal is allowed

a player dab and is in front of a goalie , the ball hit him > advantage or 30 secs

a player dab , he is not in front of the goalie , the ball hit him but would have not went in the goal > no goal. if the ref assess that the shooter is trying to draw a foul , he can yell “keep on playing”

a player dab in front of the goal, but another player is right in front of him ( probably the cause of the dab) , the ball hit him > no goal. just hold onto the ball until there is a clear shot… people cant just evaporate.

if the dab is unprovoked (i.e. not a foul) I think it is wrong to just let the game continue if the dabbed player gets hit from a shot that would have otherwise been +/- on target - even if there is a goalie there - who knows if they would have stopped the ball!

I think saying “the dabbed player can’t just evaporate” and “just hold on and wait for a clear shot” puts the responsibility for the situation on the wrong shoulders - it is the “fault” of the dabbed player to have dabbed and they should not be “rewarded” for it by either preventing a goal or by forcing the offensive team to “wait it out” until the shot is clear…

30 seconds or awarding the goal might be unsexy and lame in the moment, but in the long run it might make the game better to be draconic about dabs in the crease

At least I didn’t have to search for it myself.

@momo first goal was ca. 1s before the end of winners bracket semifinal with our team leading 1:0, ball bounced from Bouchard’s wheel who was a few m next to the goal (like the last desperate shot). 2nd goal was golden goal through Marco’s wheel which made the ball bounce a lot, so I fumbled it. I think it deserves some sort of award.

oh wow! historic moment for sure - heartbreaking on the one hand and amazing on the other!

Same thing happened in Petit Royal yesterday. Whistle, some discussion, not a goal, shooting team gets the ball and no one gets 30 seconds. Then I remembered we had this conversation before and came here to check what the hivemind says.

In retrospect, it seems to me like it should have been 30 seconds to the dabbed player, as falling in the crease and interfering ball movement is a minor penalty, right? I don’t see why it should be a goal, as with a goalie stationed right behind it is far from being a “clear scoring opportunity”, regardless of the goalie’s skill or positioning or whatever.

P.S.: kudos for @LaPassoire for creating the topic with a clear name. The information in those “what would you call” and “what is this” threads will be lost forever because we won’t be able to find anything in the future :stuck_out_tongue:

It is only a goal if it would clearly have gone in. If there is doubt about that, it should be a 30s penalty for sure. Dedensive foul in the crease, goal opportunity involved. It screams 30s!

Cool. One more question about how to ref this next time:

  • there is a goalie
  • another defensive player falls in the crease
  • attacker shoots, hits the dabbed player (the situation described in the beginning)
  • ball rebounds back to attacking team

I would call advantage, but should I at the same time give the dabbed player 30 seconds? Or only if the game stopped/ball in control of the defending team?

I would say after the player contacts the ball there should be advantage.

If the ball bounces out of the crease directly from the dabbed player the ball is open and the advantage with normal advantage rules starts.

If the ball remains in the crease a defender can get possession or remove it from the crease and it will stop the advantage. Of course, the dabbed player cannot touch it, else there would be a penalty added and it would escalate to major. But there would still be the advantage.

Whenever the advantage is over the penalty will be given to the dabbed player.

Why keep shooting if the player is already dead?

To get the advantage and 30 seconds with one opponent less, and maybe even score. Alternatively, one can wait till the dabbed player is out of the way to try and get a cleaner shot, but waiting is a luxury not all can afford.
