Jason, Raph, Cathal won in Bern
Montpellier Heat (Jason, Raph, Cathal) won the Margarita Mixed in Bern last weekend.
Directly after the Hells BellXs a mixed tournament followed, for which many of the players stayed in Bern. After a rest day on Sunday, 16 mixed teams played on Monday and Tuesday.
The weather was much better than at Hells BellXs, with the River Aare tempting players to cool off between games. The food and drinks were also excellent.
On Monday there were two groups in which 5 Swiss rounds were played. Lizards (August, Lisa, Morgan) led the table after the preliminary round and went into Tuesday’s elimination as favorites.
In the Winners Bracket Final, “Sunbern” (Tony, Jovina, Woods) played against “Montpellier Heat”. The team around Woods showed strength in the previous games, but could not score in this game and lost 4:0 after 12 minutes.
In the Loosers Bracket “Capybarra” (Pix, Johanna, Bouchard) played against “Hemmige” (Remy, Quimey, Martin). Remy and Martin, who have won the tournament together before, played brilliantly together with Quimey and created very nice passes and were able to finish successfully 4 times. The team around Pix could not score a goal and lost the game 2:1 and finished 4th. In the loosers bracket final “Sunbern” played against “Hemmige”. Hemmige" won the game 3:1 and advanced to the final.
As the team from Montpellier had won everything on the day, they had to be beaten twice. The first final went to the team led by Mongrel’s addition Martin. They won 5:2 and naturally wanted to build on their performance. However, Jason and Cathal turned up the heat in the second game and defended extremely well. At the end of regular time, the score was 2:2 and a golden goal was to decide the game. After a counterattack, Cathal scored his goal to win the title. This is the second victory this year for the two top players from Montpellier, who also won the Mtp Mixed.
Most Improved was awarded to Raph who won her first tournament. Best Team Spirit went to the Swiss team “Poloschnäggli”.
Tuesday’s games was streamed by DownOverBikepolo and can be watched on YT.
