Charles, Max and Hugo won Cairo
The French team “Panamera” (Charles, Max and Hugo) wonthe Pharaos International BikeoloCup, the first tournament in Cairo, Egypt.
The Egyptian capital has almost 10 million inhabitants. Cairo is also known as the city of the thousand minarets and has some of the most fascinating Islamic buildings in the world.
Bikepolo is played in Cairo since the Corona times, with many of the players coming from horse polo. In addition, many players are still very young. The Egyptian bikepolo committee is currently part of the Egyptian Polo Federation. Mohamed was the main organizer of the tournament, which required a lot of hard work, love and dedication.
The tournament took place on the second weekend of March and many players from all over the world flew to Cairo. There were participants from France, Germany, Italy, Russia and North America. Two tournaments were held simultaneously. One was a normal 3vs3 tournament with 13 teams, including 3 from Egypt, with 10-minute games. There was also a Nations Cup with 6 teams, some of which competed against each other as nations with 5 to 6 players. These games lasted 25 minutes.
The event started on Friday with a tour to the pyramids of Giza. Two small buses and a local guide were provided by the city. The tournament then started at 4 pm. On Saturday there was a tour to the Civilization Museum and the tournament started again at 4 pm. Sunday was then played from 9 am to 5 pm. In addition, the head of the Egyptian Horse Polo Federation and the Chief of police Cairo watched some games on Sunday. As the event took place on the police sports grounds, many of the matches were watched under the eyes of several police officers. The accommodation was also only a few minutes away, on the grounds of the Police sporting Federation. The Egyptian polo Federation president and the chief of the police sports complex introduced the medals and certificates for the players. Among other things, this shows how important the tournament was for the players of Cairo Bikepolo and how much work went into the organization.

Africa’s first tournament was a complete success for everyone. Many of the participants reported unforgettable experiences during their stay and enjoyed their time very much. Some took a few days off before and after the tournament. Others flew home again shortly afterwards.
