Mongrels United are European champions
The Mongrels United with Emmet, Dodi, Morgan and Bouchard are European champions again.
In the week after the Berlin mixed, the European Championship took place from Wednesday to Saturday. The same 4 courts, which were used for the mixed, could be played again.
48 teams played for 12 starting places at the world championship in Perpignan.
As on the previous weekend, it rained a lot, but this did not dampen the mood.
After two days of 4 Swiss rounds and one day of seeding games for the elimination, a double elimination with 24 teams was played on Saturday.
If you could win two games, you qualified for the worlds and reached the top 12.
In the Winners Bracket Final, “Rasta Rocket”(Ben, Romain, Julian, Cathal) and “Mongrels United” faced each other. Rasta Rocket lost to Mongrels in the 2019 European Championship Final, but won that game 2-1 to advance to the Grand Final.
The Loosers Bracket Final between Lessive(Remy, Vincent, Jason, Pix) and Vandals(Alfonz, Parcim, Vincent, Alban) was won by the team around World Champion Pix with 3:2 Vandals played below their level the first days, but then showed a strong game on the final day and ended up in fourth place.
In the match for the entry into the grand final and thus for the third place, Lessive then played against Mongrels. In Lyon, the team around Jason could still win, in Berlin it was finally 4:2 for the current world champions Mongrels United.
This meant a rematch of the teams Rasta Rocket and Mongrels.
It was clear to see that the Mongrels were able to raise their level once again and were able to break through the strong defense of the Rastas three times. In the first final they won 3:2.
Due to the double elimination a double final had to be played. In the second duel the Mongrels played themselves into a frenzy and converted one chance after the other. In the meantime it was already 5:0.
Cathal’s team was also able to turn it up a bit, but this was not enough to win the game. In the end Mongrels won with a score of 7:3
The final in the sunset attracted many people and the atmosphere of the tournament came to its peak.
After 2017 and 2019, this is the third European Championship title for Mongrels, who have already won the World Championship three times.
In two weeks, the cards will be reshuffled in Perpignan.

Das Traditionsteam Mongrels United um Emmet, Dodi, Morgan und Bouchard wird wiederholt zum Europameister.
In der Woche nach dem Berlin mixed fand Mittwoch bis Samstag die Europameisterschaft statt. Die gleichen 4 courts, die zum Mixed genutzt wurden, konnten noch mal bespielt werden.
48 Teams spielten um 12 Startplätze bei der Weltmeisterschaft in Perpignan.
Wie auch am vorherigen Wochenende regnete es oft, was die Stimmung jedoch nur bedingt drĂĽckte.
Nach zwei Tagen an denen jeweils 4 Swiss rounds gespielt wurden und einem Tag mit seeding Games fĂĽr die Elimination, wurde dann am Samstag eine double elimination mit 24 Teams gespielt.
Wenn man zwei Spiele gewinnen konnte, qualifizierte man sich fĂĽr die WM und erreichte die Top 12.
Im Winners Bracket Final standen sich “Rasta Rocket”(Ben, Romain, Julian, Cathal) und “Mongrels United” gegenüber. Rasta Rocket verlor zwar 2019 gegen die Mongrels im EM Finale, konnte dieses Spiel aber mit 2:1 gewinnen und stand somit im großen Finale.
Das Loosers Bracket Final zwischen Lessive(Remy, Vincent, Jason, Pix) und Vandals(Alfonz, Parcim, Vincent, Alban) konnte das Team um Weltmeister Pix mit 3:2 fĂĽr sich entscheiden. Vandals spielten die ersten Tage unter ihrem Niveau, zeigten dann am Finaltag aber ein starkes Spiel und erreichten am Ende den vierten Platz.
Im Spiel um den Einzug ins groĂźe Finale und somit um den dritten Platz, spielte Lessive dann gegen Mongrels. In Lyon konnte das Team um Jason noch gewinnen, in Berlin stand es schlussendlich 4:2 fĂĽr die aktuellen Weltmeister Mongrels United.
Dies bedeutete dann ein Rematch der Teams Rasta Rocket und Mongrels.
Es war deutlich zu sehen, dass die Mongrels noch mal ihr Level erhöhen konnten und so die starke Defensive der Rastas drei Mal durchbrechen konnten. Im ersten Finale siegten sie mit 3:2.
Durch die double elimination musste somit ein Doppel Finale gespielt werden. Im zweiten Duell spielten die Mongrels sich in einen Rausch und verwandelten eine Chance nach der anderen. Zwischenzeitlich stand es dann schon 5:0.
Auch das Team um Cathal konnte noch mal ein bisschen aufdrehen, dies reichte jedoch nicht, um das Spiel zu gewinnen. Schlussendlich siegten Mongrels mit einem Spielstand von 7:3
Das Finale im Sonnenuntergang zog viele Schaulustige an und die Stimmung des Turniers kam zu ihrem Höhepunkt.
Nach 2017 und 2019 ist dies der dritte EM Titel fĂĽr die Mongrels, die schon drei Mal die Weltmeisterschaft gewinnen konnten.
In zwei Wochen werden in Perpignan die Karten neu gemischt.
