Caramba (Pajac, Greg, Frax) won the London Open
On Friday many of the players met in Newington at the pickup courts and played all evening. On Saturday there were two groups of 12 teams playing on two courts. After each team had played 5 games, Caramba topped the table with 5 wins. On Saturday evening, the teams met up in a bar to round off the evening. Sunday all teams started into a double elim.
In the afternoon, the remaining teams played for the podium. In the Winners Bracket Final, Caramba played against Wisco Disco (Pete, Conny, Tony). The team around Conny could not really keep up with the pace and the passing and lost 5:1 after 12 minutes.
In the Loosers Bracket Final Better call Saul (Niels, Saul, Levin) played against Rafael OG (Raph, Cathal, Benji). This high-scoring game was much celebrated by the spectators. A total of 10 goals were scored. After a 2:0 lead by the team around 2023 Berlin mixed finalist Saul, “Rafael OG” played better and brought more power to the court. After an intermediate score of 4:4, it was Cathal who was able to score two more goals and shoot his team into the final. Rafael OG then had to play against Wisco Disco. In the end it was 4:3 for Raph’s team, who had just won the Berlin mixed this year.
Caramba then played Rafael OG in the grand final. The well-coordinated team, which was joined by Pajac, played a strong game and won 2:1 to win the London Open.
Beagle said the following about the weekend: „Games were fast paced given the freshly surfaced tarmac at the Ferndale Community Center Brixton. The only drawdown is thr fencing which made spectating and refereeing a bit awkward.
Big shout out to those who made it possible, some of the players who organised this tournament didn’t even play any of the prior LOs. Let’s hope this Phoenix keep on rising!“
