Quimey, Morgan and Bouchard won the Scighera Mixed
Achlys (Quimey, Morgan and Bouchard) won the third edition of the Mixed Tournament in Milano.
For the 12th time there was an end of year tournament organized by Milano Bikepolo, for this one 18 teams came to the northern Italian city.
The tournament takes place at the Centro Sociale Leoncavallo, the oldest self-governing social center in Italy, which has existed since the occupation of a former factory in 1975. It was evicted as well as partially demolished in 1989, then quickly reoccupied and rebuilt. Since then it has been the site of street art, concerts, theater, debates, exhibitions and a radio station. In 1994 it changed location and since 1995 it has also offered free food and shelter to those in need.
Pickups were already played on Thursday evening. On Friday, all the people arrived one by one. On Saturday, the teams were divided into morning, afternoon and evening groups. The games started at 9 a.m. The three groups were similarly divided and 5 games were played per group.
After Saturday, Call me Giorgio (Punch, Rita, Mass) was in first place, Spectrum (Dev, Madej, Levin) in second and Achlys in third place.
On Sunday there was a big double elimination with all 18 teams. Already in the first round there was a bizarre match because Lately (Fonzo, Bulle, Woods) went into the elimination as the 14 seeded team and Totti(Julius, Eliska, Vincent) was the 4 seeded team. In the golden goal Bulle took adavantage and scored.
After the first rounds had been played and the favored teams had largely prevailed, the very interesting matches of the day began. Achlys played against Call me Giorgio in the Winners Bracket Final. Both teams had never lost a game before and delivered a 12-minute showdown in which the team around world champion Morgan emerged as the clear winner with an score of 4:1
In the Loosers Bracket Final Lately played against Tranquillo (Dodi, Johanna, Pyetro). Lately managed to improve in each of the games on Sunday and was able to score 4 goals in this game through good team play and precise big shots, while the team around former Mongrels world champion Dodi was only able to score twice. The team that finished third last year with Lisa therefore ended the tournament in fourth place. In the match for the final and thus third place, Lately played against Call me Giorgio. Punch’s team really turned up the heat and built on their performance from the previous games. In the end, they won 3:2. After the victory in Brussels, Rita once again made it to a major final.
In the final, Bouchard’s team played against Punch’s team, who won together last year. The 12-minute game was initially dominated by Achlys, but then there was a phase in which they got two goals, but before the end of the game Bouchard was able to score the 3:2 and clinch the victory for his team. He said the following about the weekent at Leoncavallo: “It’s always a pleasure to finish the season in Milano at Leoncavallo. Such a special weekend every year, whatever the format.
I’ve been there 6 times and won 6 times with great team mates : Morgan, Pompon, Gatien, Valentin, Renaud, Bulles, Punch, Eliska, Quimey !”
Bulle and Tommy were named MVP. Tommy put in a very good performance in goal and Bulle scored a very important golden goal in her team’s first game, among other things
