TypeR(Dodi, Bouchard, Morgan) won Epiphanie 2024
The first tournament of the year took place in the northern French city of Rouen. The Epiphanie 2024 bike polo tournament brought together a large number of teams from different countries to compete on the court at the beginning of the year. The tournament in Rouen is probably the oldest tournament in the world. It took place for the 13th time this year and started in 2010.
Most of the players arrived on Friday, with some players visiting Paris before the tournament to see the Stolen Garage. Accommodation varied, while most teams were hosted there were also teams who opted for the comfort of an Airbnb.
On Saturday, the tournament kicked off at 8:30am with 16 teams competing in a SwissRound format series of five games. With a temperature of -4 degrees in the morning, it was relatively cold, but luckily there was a warm room right next to the court, as well as hot drinks.
The game lasted 12 minutes with stoppage time in the last 2 minutes. In addition, on Saturday it only went up to 5 goals, so even with a 4:4, this one goal decided the game. The ranking after this intense day of play reflected the teams’ performances, with TypeR leading the table, closely followed by Ex Presidents (Josh, Luca, Emmet) and Ditto (Loker, Martin, Levin).
Saturday evening was dominated by the legendary gift party in a local bar, where the players had the opportunity to choose a gift depending on their ranking of the day. This was followed by extensive celebrations.
Sunday started again at 8:30 a.m. with a double elimination format and all 16 teams. After an exciting morning, fewer and fewer teams remained and every game was visibly tense.
As expected, TypeR and Ex Presidents met in the Winners Bracket Final, with Ex Presidents securing their place in the Grand Final with a 3-1 win. It was an initial feeling-out session between the two teams, who drew on Saturday.
In the match for the podium, KCool (Baptiste, Jojo, Alphonse) and Dito faced each other, with Dito winning 5-2 in a convincing game to secure his place on the podium.
In the Losers Bracket Final, TypeR had the opportunity to beat Dito and get their revenge in the Grand Final. While Martin and Loker each missed an important chance at the open goal, the Mongrels were able to score three times and thus entered the final 3:0
The Grand Final was an intense duel between TypeR and ExPresidents. After a clear 3:0 victory for TypeR in the first game, there had to be a second final. After arguments in the first game and several fouls, the situation was visibly tense. Morgan, Dodi and Bouchard fought hard in the second game to secure a narrow 4-3 victory. In terms of individual skills and the speed of play, the game had a World Championship Final feel as well.
In the end, TypeR secured the tournament victory and were declared champions of Epiphanie 2024 in Rouen.

Type R (Dodi, Morgan, Bouchard) ont gagné l’épiphanie 2024.
Le premier tournoi de l’année prenait place à Rouen, en France et rassemblait un grand nombre d’équipes de plusieurs pays. Ce tournoi est sans doute le plus vieux au Monde, avec une 13éme édition en 2024 pour une première en 2010.
La plupart des joueurs sont arrivés le vendredi et certains sont allés visiter Paris et le Stolen Garage. Si la plupart étaient hébergés par des joueurs pour le week-end, d’autres ont optés pour un Airbnb
Le tournoi a démarré le samedi à 8h30 pour 5 tours de SwissRound à 16 équipes. Face aux températures fraîches, -4°C le matin, l’organisation a mis à disposition des boissons chaudes et un vestiaire chauffé.
Les matchs ont duré 12 minutes avec arrêt de temps dans les 2 dernières minutes. Le samedi les matchs s’arrêtaient une fois une équipe à 5 buts. Le classement après cette dure journée reflète les performances des équipes avec Type R en première place, suivi par Ex Presidents (Josh, Luca, Emmet) et Ditto (Loker, Martin, Levin).
Le samedi soir, a eu lieu la célébrissime soirée des cadeaux dans un bar. Toutes les équipes ont pu choisir leur cadeau en fonction de leur classement avant de faire la fête.
Le dimanche a démarré à 8h30 également avec une double élimination à 16 équipes. Après une matinée palpitante, de moins en moins d’équipes restaient en compétition et les matchs se tendaient.
Comme attendu, Type R et Ex Presidents se sont rencontrés en finale du winner bracket avec une victoire 3-1 pour Ex Presidents.
Ce ne fut que le début de la tension entre ces équipes qui avaient fait égalité le samedi .
Dans le match opposant Ditto et KCool (Jojo, Baptiste, Alphonse) pour la 3ème place, Ditto l’a emporté 5-2 au terme d’une prestation convaincante sécurisant sa place sur le podium.
Lors de la finale du looser bracket, Type R a pu obtenir sa revanche dans la grande finale en battant Ditto.
Les Mongrels ont pu inscrire 3 buts là où Martin et Loker ont manqué leur chance face à la cage vide.
La finale a été un duel intense entre Type R et Ex Presidents. Après une première victoire nette de Type R (3-0), une seconde finale a eu lieu.
Après plusieurs disputes et fautes dans le premier match, l’ambiance était très visiblement tendue. Morgan, Dodi et Bouchard se sont durement pour gagner ce second match et l’ont remporté 4-3.
En termes de vitesse de jeu et de compétences individuelles, ce match a eu un goût de finale des championnats du Monde.
Au final, Type R fut sacrée champion de l’épiphanie 2024 à Rouen.
