As you all (should) know, the Epiphanie will celebrate its 14th edition. We are very proud to organize this tournament again and want to express one thing : we discussed a lot right after the last edition and a few weeks ago to decide what we would do concerning the team format. We, unanimously, decided to NOT make the tournament mandatory mixed. The main reason is that we all feel (“we” meaning FLINTA and non-FLINTA players from RBP in a very calm discussion) that making it mandatory is not a good solution and that “mandatory” can easily turn FLINTA players into “pokemon card”. Having said that, we are not against any existing or future mandatory tournaments. Do as you want to do. We won’t force anyone into anything. All of us will always be happy to participate to those. We are just saying that we don’t want to apply this.
non-FLINTA players from RBP proved that they don’t need “mandatory” to think about playing with FLINTA players. The FIRE tournament proved that different solutions could exist, even if they aren’t the best ones (but looking for perfection is the best way to never do). And many players from all around the globe proved that they don’t need mandatory to include FLINTA players.
That is why we won’t make this tournament mandatory mixed nor we will give “special advantage” to teams with FLINTA players. Nevertheless, we invite all of you to offer to the community a new way of thinking and playing. If you feel like FLINTA players are important (which we do at RBP), help them feel like it, make teams with them, consider asking FLINTA players even if you “really want to win this tournament”. Yes, this is only Bikepolo yet our actions can change a lot of thing in and out of this community. Including FLINTA players without being forced into it is the best way to help them reaching what we all deserve.
Some people asked us to “make it mixed” to what we answer, “no, you make it mixed” ! We all can prove that we don’t need mandatory to change the habits.
