Goal Refs / Judges signalling

3.5.2.3.
False Start/Infraction – Extends an arm straight in the air and the other pointing at the player that committed the infraction.

I think signing with the second hand to the player who committed the infraction can confusing and in certain scenarios difficult. Apart from that I think hardly ever goal judges actually use their second hand to signal to the player.

I have a much easier time asking goal judges to either raise their arm if they want me to give advantage or do this

to signal me to use the whistle.

Whats other peoples take on this?
@Mega_shuffle Whats your impression on this?

@Levin requested I made that sign at FHBPC when he was reffing and I was goal reffing.

I don’t know how I feel about it in term of it becoming standard procedure.
Already getting the attention of a main ref during a match is hard enough. This does not feel like a move that draws attention, and at the end of the day it’s up to the main ref to make the call.

Having said all that, if you feel this engages the goal refs’ attention better and if you prefer it as your modus operandi, I’m all for it. It’s your match to control and you have freedom to you build your reffing strategy and how you communicate with your reffing staff.

Overall I see the bigger problem with goal refs getting the refs attention at all, especially in heated games with a big, loud crowd. A colored flag so far worked best, but still in some situation the game moves to the opposite side of the court the ref and assistant may not see that the goal ref is waving like a maniac at them.

In terms of ref culture it would be advised to take more often the view of the goal ref into account, when the game is stopped to make a more informed call. I particularly want to stress here that goal refs should proactively seek a conversation with the ref if they spotted a foul vor detail about a situation that the ref missed, especially if the wrong team/player was penalized or a goal was wrongfully called/rejected.

I have often overturned an initial decision because of a conversation with the goal ref.

+++ this django comment, you can easily ref with 0 reffing mistakes if the main ref/assistant/goal refs are on the same page

in the same way ALWAYS finish your reffing game cuz the new main ref will be left with no idea who is goal ref , what language they using etc
