Participation! or: what happens after the president leaves?

You’ve seen it happen: your club has grown organically for years and years but it’s always kind of been the same heads in contact with the brewery for the tournament, in contact with the city council about funds for your court and basically everything else. Often it’s even just one person. And that’s because everyone else just fucking sucks, they can’t even tie their own laces let alone be in charge of talking to city officials. Then the president moves town or has kids and the club dies within a year…well done, boss!

So how can you avoid this? How can your club actually spread responibilities and know how and become a democracy instead of having a (hopefully at least) benevolent dictatorship? Let’s hear from the Rojavas of Bike Polo!

ugh, careful with my heart here

Some interesting comments in this Northside Polo Podcast with Mike from Timaru.

Really like the comment about how the Timaru roller hockey club have a system whereby an club officer has it included as part of their tenure that they must educate an apprentice for the role before leaving.
