We’re collecting donations for Poloverse infrastructure costs.

The current server cost is around 20€/month after the hardware was upgraded recently (before, it was 10€/month). The domain name costs 10€/year. It’s not huge, but Andy has been paying for it since May 2021. Our objective is to collect enough funds to account for the last four years and two years forward. So we’re looking at collecting 1200€.

Poloverse has about 1000 users, if half of us donate 3–5 euros we can easily reach our goal! The more money we collect, the more years Poloverse will be up and running. To contribute to keeping Poloverse alive, you can donate via PayPal at thepoloverse@gmail.com or @Poloverse making sure to select “Friends and Family”. Otherwise a Revolut transfer is possible via: Revolut.Me

Sorry for asking, I don’t mean nothing bad but aren’t you paying too much for the server. 240/year for that kind of site is a bit high imo. It’s “just” a forum. There are really good servers at Infomaniak for example (“green” server : Ecology – Find out why we pollute ). That could help a bit to be on something like that, wouldn’t it ?

Thanks for the suggestions, somebody pointed that out the same thing recently, we’ll dig into it and of course consider cheaper solutions than Digital Ocean

@Pyetro Yep, in my experience DO is a bit of a scam. I switched to https://www.hetzner.com for work projects and it hits the magic spot of good+cheap+sustainable!

i think you should be able to print some kind of receipt from paypal, i feel like i’ve had to do that in the past but it was a long time ago. if you use paypal, i mean

yes I can provide the PayPal receipt of course, nothing more “official” nor from any “benefit association” which does not exist.

Confirming I got some donation over Revolut and sent on the PayPal account.
Also we already paid back all the expenses Andy had to face till now, thanks again @andy_h !

We are about to buy the new server and start working on it in order to make a massive upgrade of the platform!
