Hi! Last year we discussed having 2 rookies minimum per team as a requirement so that rookies/beginners remain at the center of this tournament. Should we add a voting option or is it too restrictive since we now can have more teams in (as it’s in Lichtenberg)?

Also another point because now that people can vote it doesn’t show clearly - (as long as rule one applies means: as long as the rookie started after Jan 24 - personal take, a rookie who might have played rising stars 2024 after three months a polo is no less a rookie after 1 year and three months of polo).

If rule 1 doesn’t apply what would be the definition for being a rookie? Maybe after the last tournament? I don’t really care but it might be relevant for the voting

Hey Bobo, Thank you for your ideas. Please open a new poll for this. I dont want to add any options, because people voted already. In my opinion the rookie status does not vanish just because you played Rising Stars before, but feel free to bring this to a poll.

A rookie is a player who started playing earliest Jan 2024 (at least this is how we made the rule last two years), however, if you have another take on that make a poll and challenge this definition.

Hi Rita! All clear! My point was more to say that as long as people are rookies, so starting from Jan 24, they should be able to play as rookie (since it’s a rookie-centered tournament), even if they played last year’s edition after only 3 months playing polo (it was more to comment on the option “rookie can play twice rising stars”).

As I remember discussions to place back rookies at the center of the tournament and then consider having two rookies minimum per team, I might suggest another option in the coming days to vote on as you suggested :)

I can remember that people were questioning if rookies should be able to play twice Rising Stars. I added this option to make people aware of this and give them the opportunity to challenge this rule. The same with “any rookie scoring is worth two points”, which implies that more than one rookie can be in the team and has the same advantage “scoringwise”. Also here there is not much of a choice and I added this rule to make people aware of this rule (in progress).

Hey!

I like the idea of having a rookie-focused tournament, so I second the part about 2 rookies minimum in a team OR giving an advantage to teams who have 2+ rookies in their teams. For instance, only teams having 2+ rookies have the “double scoring” rule applied?

But I think this also ties back to “who qualifies as a rookie”, and I feel like it’s a longer discussion :)

Heeeyaaaa berlin

What if an idea was to put a limit on polo experience per team? For example 3.5 or 4 years. Then each team creates its own assembly. This would mean that experienced players wouldn’t be able to play, which is perhaps not the aim of this tournament either.
In fact, it’s a bit like the newbalaya system…

Other thoughts:
Why was January chosen in the first place?
In fact, I have the impression that there are 2 waves of rookies per year (+/-). In spring and at the end of summer, so maybe it would make sense to think about adapting the deadline? idk

These are just thoughts <3

Hey, I like your ideas. If you want, make a poll about a specific topic such as starting date for rookie status and suggest more options to the ones defined in the first poll. We can change the rules, if you get a majority for your suggestion. Deadline will be end of this year, so we can start the registration and give people enough time to plan travels.

I think we are discussing this exactly because we could only accept 10 teams. This year we will expand it to 16, so I guess it’s gonna be fine to leave it at 1 minimum.

small poll with more ideas

  • A team should have a maximum of 4 years of experience (all together, ex: 1year+1year+2years)
  • A team should have a maximum of 5 years of experience
  • To be considered a rookie: birth date September 2023 or after
  • To be considered a rookie: birth date April 2024 or after
  • To be considered a rookie: birth date September 2024 or after
