Main Tournament slots and Wildcard allocations :
At the conclusion of a region’s worlds qualification event, the region provides the Worlds host with a list of teams who have qualified for the Main tournament and intend to travel to Worlds. If the number of teams on that list is smaller than the direct entry spots for the region, the unused spots are placed in a pool for reallocation through the redistribution process once all qualifiers are complete.

Redistribution process :

  • Registration of Interest: Teams that competed in a regional qualifier and wish to be considered for additional direct entry spots must register their interest by a cutoff date, set after all regional qualifying series conclude.
    • A team for this purpose is 3/4 players who competed together at a regional championship
  • Priority Order for Redistribution: Unused direct entry spots will be redistributed to regions based on:
    • their original direct entry allocation size, starting with the region with the most spots, and
    • Whether they have any additional teams to send.
  • Spots will be allocated one at a time in this order until the pool of unused spots is exhausted.
  • Teams that have earned a wildcard spot will receive a private invitation to register from their respective regions.

The proposed order is:

  1. North America (11 spots) & Europe (11 spots)
  2. Oceania (5 spots)
  3. South America (4 spots) & Asia (4 spots)
  4. Africa (1 spot)

The order for two regions with the same number of spots will be by coin toss.

For example, if North and South America weren’t able to fill their allocations and there were two spots left over and Europe and Oceania had extra teams who qualified, then an extra spot would be provided to Europe and then Oceania.

Adjustment to Wildcard :
Teams who registered interest in being considered for additional direct entry spots but did not get in should be offered a wildcard spot from a region’s allocation. Unused wildcard spots will go into a general pool for awarding by ballot.
