Interesting. What failure modes does this strengthen against? I would think first against ripping the thread out of the nipple but on the few nipples I broke it was always the head that sheared off. Do the longer spokes also help with that?
It strengthens the nipple at the top of the flange by ensuring that the thread is filled at that point. My assumption is that it prevents it deforming.
I’ve never had the thread break out but in theory more thread contact might help this also.
Most of the nipples I break are usually from overtightening them in the stand as I am a hamfisted galoot. ; )

I cannot be the only one enjoying Polobike as a commuter.
Short wheelbase, small turning circle + all the reflexes one gets during the games.
No other bike cuts it when there is a tool of such precision in the stable.
As the frame I’ve posted previously has cracked once again, after two repairs and one nice powder coating, I’ve made a decision to give it a rest.
There were negotiations, delays with manufacturing, and an itch to make something unique, as an addition to what I consider a quite perfect polo bike I’ve put together already.
That’s how we got here:
Commuter bicycle that can do polo, has stupidly radical geometry, two brakes for those hilly descents, and, what I consider, is too FAT to be a purist’s machine for competitions (26x1.5" is too much, come on).
Frame was made from a donor MTB (Batavus Action Line Explorer) (quite heavy, but claims to be cro-mo) by one of our players PROJOB (wordplay), finished and painted by Emerald bike co (another player from Kharkiv).

Overall, this one is stupid silly. With some overlap in the frontmost cleat position (I blame the steerer angle + Q-factor), those FAT tires, rear brake - it does polo about as well as my regular polobike, but has more off-road capability. The (unintentionally) radical geometry makes commuting fun. And the cageless bottle is perfect for polo =D
