REGISTRATION DEADLINE 2nd of APRIL : FORM
J’ai enfin compris l’alignement des étoiles et je vois qu’il y en a 2 dans le canton de Vaud
Ciao a tutti!
We’ve worked out a format proposal for this swiss league.
Let us know what you think about it! In case of an overall approval or of a big silence we’ll stick to it and open the inscription next week.
Team requirements
For us, the goal of the swiss league is to give teams the possibility to prepare themselves for “important” team-tournaments, such as swiss champs, euros or worlds.
Thus, we stick to the current format of the swiss champs and euros:
- Teams of 4 players
- Gender diversity (“mixed”) is not mandatory (although we encourage the formation of mixed teams and are happy to see many of them)
Slot distribution
Every club has two slots per event (e.g. “Lausanne A” and “Lausanne B”).
-
To account for the individual polo culture of each city, the clubs can handle their slots in many ways:
Maybe some clubs have established teams who will try to play every swiss league together (e.g. Bella, Whoever, etc).
Others might shuffle new teams each time and give them a team slot. Team “Lausanne A” could then be filled differently each time, but every time this team participates it can win points in the global ranking.
Maybe all 4 players of a team come from different clubs → check with your clubs which slot is available and could be yours.
The same could be the case for a team which is mixed with international players: Discuss with the clubs and grab a free slot.
You know what we mean? -
The club slots don’t have to be taken at every swiss league.
(As 14 teams of 4 would be too much for a one-day tournament, it is even almost a requirement that not all slots are taken each time)
While every day of the league is by itself a little tournament with a daily ranking, there will be a global ranking after several league days. Not sure yet how we want to handle the overall ranking - more participation means more chance to win? We could discuss this during the first league.
In the end I guess it will all start as a training league where you can test your game and train as a team, the global ranking is probably of little importance.
We could think about opening individual league days to international teams if there are only few inscriptions. But as we are already 7 clubs with many motivated players, we’ll definitely give priority to local teams (which could anyways be mixed with international players).
Game format
As it is a league, and to guarantee an equal amount of games for all teams, there won’t be any elimination phase. We suggest to either play daily swiss rounds, or to play a round robin over several league days. Game duration will probably be 18 min, or whatever Euros will be.
If other clubs plan to organize league days, we would rather go for the round robin option. But if we see that there will only be 1-3 leagues throughout the year, daily swiss rounds will probably be the more interesting option.
League days
As it would be nice to have severel league days throughout the year, we went for a simple one-day tournament - not many requirements for housing, food, etc, we’ll just provide the minimum (court, balls, snacks). If other cities want to put more energy into it and organize 2-day leagues, just go for it
We hope that other league days will follow
Let us know your thoughts on all of this (and sorry for the long chaotic text xxx)

Fill in the form below
Requirements:
Teams:
- 4 players
- Gender diversity is not mandatory
*international support is allowed
Team name / Club:
- Every club has 2 slots reserved, they can be taken or not
- team name is “city” + “1” or “2”
- Discuss in your clubs how you distribute your slots (or ask a friendly club if you can take their slot if they don’t need it and your club already has 2 teams)
Number of teams:
As it is a one-day tournament, we cannot host 14 teams (7 swiss clubs x 2 slots each).
Let’s see how many teams want to come.
In case there won’t be enough play time for each team, we’ll find a solution (lottery / play in 2 cities / …).
There won’t be a first-come-first-serve solution, so take your time to create your teams.
There will probably be some food, and we can host some players.
See you soon in Lausanne once more
Team liste?
Teams registered for the tournament
Right now, we have 5 teams officially signed up. Geneva is probably adding 2 more, bringing us to 7 teams.
Ideally, we’d have 8 teams—that would make the tournament format perfect:
More variety in matchups
Plenty of games for everyone
Balanced wait times between matches
If any other team is interested, now’s the time to jump in and complete the lineup!
